Heliotrope Moth (larvae)

Utetheisa pulchelloides

Description:

The larvae of Heliotrope Moths are often seen in silk nests. It is thought that the nests provide some protection against predation.

Habitat:

These Heliotrope Moth larvae were spotted in the farm on their local host plants, Scorpion Weed (Heliotropium indicum), called "Trompang Elepante" in the Philippine national language. In our local dialect, this plant is called Ikoi-pusa. Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/TrompangEle......
