Description:

Winter migration. Mostly found in the central valley in California during the winter.
Large and tall cranes with long bill, neck and legs. Body is bulky with short tails. Feathers on the body and tail are grey with some rusty colors, and feathers seem droopy. The head has a dark red forehead patch that just covers the eyes..

Habitat:

Winters in rice ponds and flooded fields.
