Sign In to followAwesome!! Thanks Lisa! And your blog is wonderful. I honestly had no idea there were so many medical advantages provided by snakes... so cool!
Mike, the tagged is placed by first making a small incision in the thin top layer of skin under the hind leg and injecting the little tag with the VI alpha tag injector. The tags are fluorescent and glow when using the VI light (essentially a black light flashlight). There is a liquid form of visible implant elastomer tags which is also really cool. I've added a link which explains both of these if you're interested in knowing more :)

What a lovely snake! I've never even heard of this species of racer... very cool!
Thank you all! And Cameron, they do have the sweetest little faces. Attitude and all, it's hard not to love a face like that!
It's probably a female. They have noticeably smaller eardrums (technically called tympanums) than males, even at a young age. Great photo by the way... I'm shocked you were able to get this close with an iphone without her hopping away :)
What a beautiful picture of a spadefoot!! I love these guys so much... they are so fun to encounter. I rarely see them, but when I do I usually see LOTS of em!
New favorite snake... what a beauty!! Congratulations on spotting of the day, this photo and snake well deserves it!
How cool!!
Thank you Lisa! And yes, too cute for words...
