The Beautiful Ellipsidion

Description:

The last instar of an attractively coloured cockroach. About 16mm long. Yellow-orange cerci; black patches with fine white spots; boot-leather tan near margins; black legs and antennae; a fine yellow edge to the cephallo-thorax (which becomes clear like glass in adult form.

Habitat:

Resting on the trunk of a 'Silver Princess' eucalyptus planted in a local school ground.

Order- Blottodea... Family Blattellidae - also called 'Bush Cockroach' 'Beautiful Cockroach' - "Although most cockroaches are active at night, the Austral Ellipsidion Cockroaches forage on foliage of shrubs during the daytime.
