Common Crane

Grus grus

Description:

If accepted, this will be the first record for Texas. This bird is pretty rare in all of the US, so was neat one showed up so close to home! Similar to the sandhill cranes it is with, it is different by having black on the front of the face and throat and a little on the top of the head as well. Spent 3 hours with this bird today, but it was 500+ yards away so hard to get good photos!

Habitat:

Hanging out with over 10,000 sandhill cranes in a lake in short grass prairie.
