Nuphar lutea
Also known as Brandy-bottle, this is an aquatic plant of the family Nymphaeaceae. On the surface of stagnant water bodies it inhabits, the plant produces a mass of heart-shaped oval leaves, and a solitary, hermaphrodite terminal yellow flowers. The flowers are 2 to 4 cm in diameter, with five or six large bright yellow sepals, concealing numerous small yellow petals.
The Yellow water-lily is native to temperate regions of Palearctic, and thrives in shallow water and wetlands, with its roots in the sediment and its leaves floating on the water surface. Here, seen in a small valley in Jura mountain Range, around the lake Lamoura - the highest altitude lake in Jura Mountain range, at 1156m. The valley is surrounded by a coniferous forest, and is composed of grassland, peatland and a small glacial lake.
Lamoura Lake has been designated as a Natura 2000 area, in order to protect the neighbouring peatland. This site is very rich in wildlife and plant life.
