LARVA: body completely ringed with black and white bands (about a dozen broad black bands interspersed with broad white bands); head tan, yellowish, or orangish. ADULT: head and labial palps white or ivory; thorax and forewing shiny black; forewing with 3 white costal spots (largest near base) and another white spot at anal angle. Hindwing pale gray. I often see folded-over leaves on redbud trees, so I finally decided to open one up and see what was living inside the "tent." As you can see, multiple caterpillars reside together on a single leaf.

I think I'm going to collect a few leaves and see if I can photograph the adult stage.
Very interesting! I will have to check our redbuds for these guys!
