Whitefly Pupae

Description:

This is the second day in a row that I've found something that looks like this. This 2 mm, dark, oval, bumpy aphid or scale has white, wavy wax-like substance around the outside.

Habitat:

Coast Live oak in Coast Sage Scrub at Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve

I missed this one - looks like a wax seal ! I like the ridge along the midline.

Hi Cindy - it is a whitefly in the family Aleyrodidae
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitefly
Just google "whitefly quercus agrifolia" and you will come up with some similar pictures and likely candidates.

That aphid is amazing - I see your dilemma.

I'm torn. Before yesterday, I'd swear this is a scale but after finding a Palm Aphid in my backyard http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/110..., now I'm thinking this is some sort of aphid.
