A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This is the second day in a row that I've found something that looks like this. This 2 mm, dark, oval, bumpy aphid or scale has white, wavy wax-like substance around the outside.

I missed this one - looks like a wax seal ! I like the ridge along the midline.
Wow! John, you're awesome! Thank you
Hi Cindy - it is a whitefly in the family Aleyrodidae

Just google "whitefly quercus agrifolia" and you will come up with some similar pictures and likely candidates.

That aphid is amazing - I see your dilemma.
I'm torn. Before yesterday, I'd swear this is a scale but after finding a Palm Aphid in my backyard http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/110..., now I'm thinking this is some sort of aphid.
Did you look at Parasaissetia nigra ? http://www.forestryimages.org/browse/det...
This one is intriguing! As soon as I find out the ID, I'll let you know :)
Wow! Cindy please have an eye on him daily.:)) something very interesting!
