Araneid spider (♂)

Backobourkia sp.

Description:

A type of Araneid or orb spider with unusual 2nd legs. Thickened tibia and raptorial spines including one quite large. Not sure what they are for. This is a male. Abdomen is slightly recurved. Body length about 20mm.

Habitat:

Exploring the foliage of Cherry Ballart (Exocarpus) in a local national park. Dandenong Ranges NP.

Notes:

This one might be hard to get species.
There seems to be much confusion locally and many of these were in genus Araneus and now in Backobourkia. (Aussies have to love that name)
