Yoyetta abdominalis
Yet another Yoyetta. About 35mm long with very red gadgets at the tip of the abdomen.
Resting on a wall under night lighting at the local school.
"Appearance: Similar to the New England Firetail, but with larger yellow-orange triangles covering most of the dorso-lateral section of the abdominal tergites. Also the sternites have distinctive reddish-orange coloration. Body covered with conspicuous fine hairs. Size: Forewing length: 22-29mm. Range and Season: From the Brindabella Range in the Australian Capital Territory south into Victoria and the eastern part of Tasmania. This species may also occur on the south-eastern edge of South Australia. It occurs from November to January. Habits: Like most members of the genus, adults inhabit eucalypt forest, particularly where there is a ferny understorey. Adults often perch on the upper branches of tall trees. Song: A coarse, 1.5 sec phrase ending with a sharp tick, somewhat like the song of a grasshopper. Occasionally other small intermittent phrases are produced. " - UQ.edu.au
