Description:

Aquatic songbird. Dusky gray, chubby bird with orange legs. Thin black beak. Solid plumage. Dives into the water for food.

Habitat:

Merced River in Yosemite National Park.

Yes, or come to BC and sit down by any fast-flowing rocky stream/river in the breeding season and you may see a pair bringing food to their nest, or singing as they fly past you. Definitely a special bird! Nice spotting.

Ashley, I can see why! I hiked down a small cliff to get closer to this bird. I couldn't believe my eyes when it was diving and swimming.

Ashley & Josh, if you visit Yosemite, I'm sure you'll get an opportunity to see an American dipper.
