King Stropharia

Stropharia rugosoannulata

Description:

Deep red caps, purple-gray gills, and a white stem with a thick, cogwheeled ring. There were at least a dozen mushrooms and they ranged in size from 5-8cm tall.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground along a nature trail in a swampy, mixed forest.

Notes:

Interestingly, Stropharia rugosoannulata is a nematophagous fungus, which means that it is able to trap and digest nematodes.
