Smoky brackets

Bjerkandera fumosa

Description:

This stack of rounded brackets was about two metres tall on the side of a prunus tree. Brackets are interjoined, folded and the centres show patches of toothy surface. Each bracket was approximately 120mm wide. Looks a little like Bjerkandera adusta in form but has colours and size more typical of B.fumosa.

Habitat:

In a local reserve. Kings Park.

Notes:

Bjerkandera fumosa is not often recorded in Australia but nothing else fits so well. B adusta is introduced here.

"Bjerkandera fumosa is a one-year fungus, cap-like, without a stipe. Adnate sideways, semicircular, or oblong-deflected. 20 to 50 mm wide, 30 to 120 mm long and 5 to 15 mm thick. Single fruiting bodies usually grow into roof-like aggregates, sometimes they are resupinate. Straw-yellow, pale-nut colors. "

Thanks Antonio. I have decided it is Bjerkandera but they are mostly not in Australia. Microscopic work would be necessary for species.

Beautiful find Mark, congrats and thanks for sharing
