Red-capped Plover

Charadrius ruficapillus

Description:

Small resident plover with incomplete breastband, incomplete white ring around neck, broad white forehead not extending behind eye and pale sandy brown upper parts. Male has a rufous head and breastband.

Habitat:

Wairo beach at the entrance to Lake Tabourie. These guys nest on the open beach and a couple of days after these photos were taken their nests were washed away in a king tide. Very sad as the resident of the area had fenced off that part of the beach to try to keep the nests safe.
