wood blewit

Lepista nuda

Description:

A french-grey mushroom with a rubbery "silicone" cap about 90mm wide. The centre of the cap was slightly raised into a fleshy umbo (pic #2) and the margin of the cap had a thin translucent rim which curled upwards in very mature caps (pic #3 & 5). Gills were flesh coloured and reticulated in appearance. Stipe was plain and white with pale brown stains.

Habitat:

under a pine tree - growing in the ground amongst pine needles.

Notes:

Mushroom with a weird texture. Tried to get a spore print but got nothing definite, just a brownish yellow stain marking where the rim of the cap had rested. Thanks to CorduneanuVlad for helping me with an ID for this mushroom. Wood Blewit's are supposed to have a white/pinkish spore print - I probably couldn't see the spores because I used white paper !!

pouihi, I did not get an actual spore print, just a brown stain along the margin - not sure what caused the stain.

Thanks CorduneanuVlad - I accept your ID suggestion and have put it up as a wood blewit - so exciting ! I have learnt something new today.

Thanks for looking at this CorduneanuVlad - will check this out. I must say that this mushroom had a browny yellow spore"stain" and not white/pink as from a Blewitt ( according to the wiki link)
