Wilson's Warbler

Cardellina pusilla

Description:

Summer migrant for California. (out of season warbler)
Small yellow Warbler with short wings and a black cap. Olive green back, with grey also on the tail and wings. Dark eyes and small bill.

Habitat:

Spotted foraging in open ground but near water and shrubs to retreat to.

Notes:

Spotted an out of season warbler in the SF Botanical Gardens.

I just spotted one of these fellows this morning in Strybing Arboretum. Nice to get confirmation they hang out there.

They breed here in the summer. It may have never left or flight feathers not developed. I recently posted a Black-bellied Plover still in its summer plumage while the rest I've seen have change.
