Hairy Woodpecker

Picoides villosus

Description:

Similar to the Downy Woodpecker except the Hairy's size is larger, the bill is longer and thicker, the tail outer feathers are all white,and the call is different.
The hairy has a white head with black crown, eye stripe and mustache. White from throat to belly, also a white back. Black wings with white barring and black main tail feathers.

Habitat:

Mixed woodlands.

Notes:

Many times can be seen near other Woodpecker or Sapsucker species. This one was actually following a Flicker.
