Helix pomatia
Also known as Roman or edible snail, these two individuals had a shell some 4 to 4,5 cm in diameter, with 5 or 6 whorls; one cream-brown the other one whitish, both shells sporting horizontal lignes. The body of the snail was light-brown-grey, patterned like a puzzlework.
Found in between two agricultural fields, both under wheat, in rural parts of Geneva suburbs; not far from a protected marshes of Mategnin.
As said above, this snail is edible and highly appreciated in French cuisine. But, being difficult to breed (or not rentable), it became rare in french countryside, and protected - it is illegal to collect it at all. Similar measures apply in England too.
