Blue-headed Hummingbird

Cyanophaia bicolor

Description:

At 9.5cm or 3.75" this male has an electric blue/violet head with its throat, upper breast, and tail the same. The lower mandible is pink with a black tip (see pic 5).

Habitat:

I spotted this little beauty sitting on the outer edges of rich, moist rainforest in Syndicate.

Notes:

This stunning little hummingbird is found only on the islands of Dominica and Martinique. Reference for identification: "Dominica's Birds", p87, Arlington James, Stephen Durand, and Bertrand Jno. Baptiste.
