Phylloporus rhodoxanthus

Description:

An oxymoron mushroom - as its common name implies, this mushroom looks like bolete, but with gills. The cap was bright red with bright yellow gills and a pale red stem.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a deciduous along the Hudson River.

Notes:

This species is considered to be an example of convergent evolution.
