Moth

Family Lasiocampidae

Description:

A fairly large moth that is golden colored with shimmery, golden flecks in the wings.

Habitat:

I found it laying on the porch in the morning not doing so well, the hind wing had been messed up in some way. After I took photos, I put it in the shade of the porch and when I came back later it was gone. I think it probably got eaten by something since it wasn't able to fly when I found it.

right. I'm getting the hang of this "range" thing ;) haha

Do they have Eggars or any Mythimna species in Africa?

Yes, they are only found in North America. Since this was found in Africa, it can't be a Polphemus.

Impressive moth! If that was in Australia I would guess Abantiades sp. I wonder if SouthAfrica has an equivalent... ?
