Wood Duck

Aix sponsa

Description:

The population of the Wood Duck has increased a great deal in the last several years. The increase has been due to the work of many people constructing Wood Duck boxes and conserving vital habitat for the Wood Ducks to breed. - wiki

Habitat:

marsh

Notes:

This was my first time spotting wood ducks. I was walking a 1km long floating boardwalk when I spotted the ducks far in the distance. This photo was cropped in for a better look. Even with my 300mm telephoto totally extended, they were still far away. A great blue heron was perched motionlessly about 5m (15') in front of these wood ducks.
