Light-footed clapper rail

Rallus longirostris levipes

Description:

The light-footed clapper rail is a federally- and state-listed endangered subspecies of the also endangered California clapper rail. This subspecies ranges from Santa Barbara, California to the northern Mexican coast.

Notes:

Spotted at Bolsa Chica wetlands. I noticed the bird only because another photographer was looking at it. It darted under the wooden boardwalk beneath a crowd of visitors and went pecking behind some pickleweed.
