Scalloped Sallow Moth

Description:

Family: Noctuidae, Subfamily: Noctuinae, Tribe: Xylenini (Swordgrasses, Pinions and Xylenine Sallow. A common bright orange sallow moth although coloring is variable from yellow to orange. TL 21-25 mm (This one 3/4 inch) Boldly Scalloped although this one is a bit worn. Blotches/spots on wings. Hosts: Cherry, Oak, Poplar and other deciduous trees.

Habitat:

Inhabit woodlands and old fields. (Found at porch light area mid-morning)

Notes:

Late season flier and some overwinter as adults. Nocturnal and come to light.
