Hi James, it looks like you have two different species here. Your first picture looks like an Arrowhead Spider, Verrucosa arenata: http://bugguide.net/node/view/2035

I can't say which species the second one is without seeing the dorsal abdomen but I do agree that it looks like a Genus Araneus spider.
