Argynnina cyrila
A butterfly with a wing span of about 40mm. Forewings had cream and black patches with three small white dots near the apex. Each hind wing had a large eye spot - the yellow patches were brighter.
Larvae feed on a variety of grass. Spotted this in the backyard.
This attractive butterfly sat with both wings held flat. Belongs to Family Nymphalidae.

Excellent observation of this brown butterfly. These are one of the more unusual butterflies with distinctively different colors on the forewings and hindwings. I've seen these only very rarely.
