Red-browed Finch

Neochmia ruficauda

Description:

Small, dainty Australian bird growing to 12cm. Grey colour mixed with olive green on wings & tail, Yellow/olive on nape, splash of red on rump, red face stripe through eye extending to beak, beak red, legs orange. Seed eater, call is high pitched 'tee-tee'

Habitat:

Found in many regions throughout eastern Australia, small population in south west corner of WA believed to be from birds escaped from aviaries. Prefers woodland habitat with multi-level vegetation, gardens. These ones close to gardens in dry woodland & near semi-permanent watercourse.
