Multicolored Moth

Description:

A beautiful and colorful moth that just died less than 20 hours ago killed by a spider that dwells inside these wooden walls. Red head, blue abdomen, dark green wings and thorax with bright yellow band on each wing. 12mm in length. Looks like somewhere around Zygaenidae. The best match I could find is the Pidorus or Chalcosia species but Dr. Jeremy Holloway and Dr. Shen-Horn Yen identified this as a Retina constrictus.

Habitat:

Found it trapped in the spider's silks on the wooden wall of the dining hall in Maliau Basin Study Centre, Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia.
