Description:

Largest of the North American diving ducks. Wedged shaped head, males are dark reddish head and neck with dark colored chest and light grey and white back and wings with faint pattern resembling canvas. Females lack the males colors. Light brown with shades of darker brown. This was all by it's self so I didn't observe any females nearby.

Habitat:

Brackish bays, marshes that has plenty of aquatic vegetation and invertebrates.

Notes:

spotted in a bird sanctuary of Alameda island. Didn't even know I had him since I took so many images.
