Achemon Sphinx Moth

Description:

A sphinx moth with front wings that resemble dry dead leaves, complete with false shadows to give it a dinensional look. The back wings have a light pink color. The underside of the wings is tan.

Habitat:

Found on a trumpet vine plant drinking nectar. Multiple other Achemon Sphinx moths were observed on the same plant.

Notes:

This specimen was caught wile drinking nectar from a trumpet vine. It was photographed, then released in the same area a few minutes later. The moth, when disturbed, moved its front wings forward to reveal the pink and jerked around. It is capable of hovering. It does not seem to go to lights at night often but it does sometimes.
