Brewers blackbird

Euphagus cyanocephalus

Description:

The first thing I do when I begin traveling into a new state is look for a bird. My first spotting in Wyoming is the Brewer's blackbird. It was sitting in the full sun and shiny and glossy black all over. Beautiful. Has a blue sheen on the head and a yellow eye with long legs. This bird looks similar to the common grackle.

Habitat:

Open habitats of the West. There were several of these blackbirds in the trees and grasses at a campground in Buffalo, Wyoming.
