American White Pelican

Pelecanus erythrorhynchos

Description:

The American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) is a large aquatic bird from the order Pelecaniformes. It breeds in interior North America, moving south and to the coasts, as far as Central America and South America, in winter.

Habitat:

On Lake Sherry/Recreation Lake at Oxley Nature Center, Tulsa, OK, USA.

In the Tulsa area we see them most in the wintertime. They are commonly found around Keystone Lake (and the dam), the Arkansas River, and Oxley Nature Center, where this one was spotted (north Tulsa).
