Gulf Fritillary Butterfly

Agraulis vanillae

Description:

Fairly large butterfly with orange wings top and bottom, and striking white spots both sides. The wing bottom as well exhibits blue markings as pictured.

Habitat:

This was spotted at the South Coast Botanic Garden in the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California. The gardens on the peninsula are wooded, close to an urban area just off the California coast.
