Magnificent Frigate Bird

Fregata magnificens

Description:

These large birds are also known as Man o' war birds or pirates of the sea due to the fact that they steal food and nesting material from other sea birds in the area, namely tropic birds, boobies and Terns. They have to do this due to the fact their feathers are not coated in the same water repellent oils that sea birds have on their wings.

Habitat:

Seen at St Giles Island (Tobago) which is an uninhabited protected Island due to the amout of sea birds that colonise here.

Notes:

The first photo is a female, the second a male inflating his throat pouch to attract a female, the third is a pair of Juveniles and the fourth is the birds circling above the Island looking to land.
