Pleurotus citrinopileatus
A rare mushroom to find growing in the wild in the eastern United States even though it is widely cultivated commercially. These mushrooms have bright yellow caps and were growing in a cluster. Flesh, stems, and gills are white. Spores are tan/pink.
Growing on felled trees in a wet, deciduous forest.
First spotting for this mushroom on Project Noah
This species has many potential medicinal uses. It's a good source of antioxidants. Extracts have also been studied for their antihyperglycemic properties, and have been shown to decrease blood sugar levels in diabetic rats. In addition, they have also been studied as a source of lipid-lowering drugs.
