Jay

garrulus glandiarinus

Description:

These lovely colourful birds are part of the crow (corvidae) family and are just as noisy but very rarely come out into the open so to see two at the same time is not a regular occurance! They have a habit in Autumn of collecting and hoarding acorns around the woodlands.

Habitat:

seen in Potteric Carr reserve around the wooded area, seen from a covered hide.

Thanks Jen, and J I agree they are a striking looking bird, even more so when they fly as you really get to see the blue on the wings! it even shares your name (nearly) ;-)

Thank you Arlanda and Noel, I really like Jays especially the colours of them but they can be quite secretive.
