Columbine

aquilegia vulgaris

Description:

The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals, which are said to resemble an eagle's claw. A beautiful shade of pure deep blue found on the wild species that are uncultivated. Cultivars are often multicoloured and found in gardens.

Habitat:

found in low common meadow, a site owned and maintained by the Yorkshire wildlife trust.
