They come here every spring to breed, but only in small numbers, perhaps 50 or so. When Crayfish are in plentiful supply they dive into the shallow irrigation channels to pluck them out, take them up high, then drop them before swooping down to catch them in mid-air - quite spectacular.

Amazing bird. I'd love to see one, but they're quite rare in Portugal.
