Large skipper

Ochlodes sylvanus

Description:

The Large skipper is a butterfly of the Hesperiidae family found throughout Europe. Together with the Silver Spotted Skipper, Hesperia comma, it is the largest of the European skippers with a golden colour (Hesperiinae). The latter species has conspicuous silver spots on the underside which this one lacks.

Habitat:

Alpine meadow, alt. ~1300 m. Found in the Derborence area, a high biodiversity site with two different climates; in the lower part where this spotting was made the climate is continental, dry and hot.
