Peppery Coral Fungus

Clavicorona piperata

Description:

An attractive pale orange coral fungus with a slender base and symmetric branching, up to 55 mm high. Some of the tips of the branches widened to flat jelly discs with spikey margins, like a crown (pic 3). Spore print was white (pic 4)

Habitat:

Spotted growing on a damp rotting log in a nature reserve.

Notes:

Said to have a peppery taste, hence the name. Synonyms: Artomyces piperatus, Clavicorona avellanea and Clavaria piperata
