Starling; Estornino

Sturnus sp.

Description:

At first sight these appear to be European Starlings, most, if not all, juveniles; however, European Starlings are migrants/winter visitors and normally arrive in September/October. The year-round residents here are all Spotless Starlings. These normally moult in late summer/autumn and then show some spots for a short period but they are overall darker. I think some of these are Spotless but there may be some Europeans amongst them.

Habitat:

Mediterranean gardens

Notes:

European Starling, Estornino Pinto, Sturnus vulgaris.
Spotless Starling, Estornino Negro, Sturnus unicolor.
