Paropsis charybdis
A small pink tortoise leaf beetle (12mm) slightly worse for wear; one antenna missing; pink elytra with brown pitting; curved eyes.
Attracted to mercury vapour lights at the local school.
The curved eyes are an interesting. This one can be a pest in NZ. Thanks Martin for the ID. http://www.nzffa.org.nz/farm-forestry-mo... http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Paropsis+c... http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Parops...
Well if it was overwintering it sure cut it fine. It couldn't wait just one more day.
They overwinter so early is normal. This may explain its antenna issue. I haven't seen this one yet. I did see (Dicranosterna immaculata) this week but it flew off without waiting for a pic http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/162...
I can't help feeling sorry for it Lauren. Life isn't so easy with one antenna. It does look a little toughie though.
I think you have Paropsis charybdis.
