A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Kallima horsfieldi
The common name of this species is a reference to the rear surface of their wings, which is various shades of brown. When the wings are held closed, this results in a remarkable similarity to a dead leaf, further emphasized by their wing shape. The South Indian Blue Oakleaf is a nymphalid butterfly found in India. The underside appears like a leaf complete with midrib while the upperside is brilliantly coloured.
Seen at Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary.
