Tarache aprica
"Adult: sexually dimorphic - male forewing white basally with two black patches along costa, the distal patch merging with general blackish shading beyond PM line, leaving white patch near apex; female forewing mostly dark gray or blackish except for two white patches along costa, and some white at base and outer margin; small black orbicular spot surrounded by white, and usually prominent in both sexes hindwing whitish or pale gray; dark grayish-brown shading along outer margin in female only." (Bugguide.net,2006)
Spotted on a sheet hanging on my porch with black lights and halogens shining on it at night to attract moths. We live in a gated lake community surrounded by rural agricultural land, and some wooded areas.
There are hollyhocks that are now established in my flower garden, it is a host plant for these moths. Second photo is of a female, both were on the sheet this night.

Oh, I wasn't sure how that worked Mark! Is spotting something more than once ok?
Well done. Good spotting.
You have three different specimens here so you really should do three spottings.
Great pics and info Melinda.
