Grey Cracker

Hamadryas februa

Description:

These butterflies were flying all around in the little Cemetery of Mazunte on the trail to Punta Cometa. The sunlight makes them look brownish in these pictures, but they are closer to grey in color. They land on the bark and then press their wings open flat against the trunk (or cement tomb) and…..disappear! If you see one land, you can often then find several more on the same tree. Surprisingly, we didn't see them anywhere else but in the Cemetery. Family Nymphalidae.

Habitat:

Mazunte Cemetery between Mazunte and Punta Cometa.
