Description:

Breath-taking! I am estimating the wingspan to be about 4.5 inches wide. Love those colors!

Habitat:

This individual was sleeping on my front porch window shutter. My neighborhood is mainly a sad remnant of Longleaf Pine /Turkey Oak Sandhill.

Notes:

From Bugguide.net: Food Larvae feed on leaves of Bald Cypress, basswood, birch, cedar, elm, hickory, Honeylocust, maple, oak, pine, Sassafras (Sassafras albidum), Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), sycamore, walnut. Adults do not feed.
