The Bride

Catocala neogama

Habitat:

Large several cm long moth. This amazing creature landed on my hand, you could see and feel the loud vibrating wings which when in flight were audible! There were several around the porch light. Very beautiful! You could also feel the leg hairs hooking on really strongly to your hand, they seemed to like the heat from the and hunkered down like they did not want to leave that new and unusual habitat!

Notes:

Family Erebidae

This looks like one of the Underwings from genus Catocala. Did you happen to see the color of the underwings? http://bugguide.net/node/view/368/bgpage...
