Drab Green Moth

Ophiusa tirhaca

Description:

7 cm across the base of the wings. Yellow with complex bands of brown across the wings at the base. A black spot about half way along each leading edge. dark spots on the under-wings. The top of the hind-wings is yellow with black bands. The body is woolly with a very large carapace

Habitat:

on a steel banister at the apartments amidst native and general suburban gardens by the coast

Notes:

This moth was wafting pheromones by fluttering and so I believe it is in the process of mating. It was returned to its spot in under five minutes. Thanks to Jakubko for the identification

They've got to be joking! Introduced here I suppose... by a colour-blind person.

Wow! Just found this one. Great find... wafting pheromones you couldn't resist huh? (lol) I noticed a few days ago a moth doing little wing flutters, but going nowhere, was actually laying eggs.
