Children's Stick Insect (♀)

Tropidoderus childrenii

Description:

Approximately 100mm long highly mimetic looking like long eucalyptus leaves.

Habitat:

On eucalyptus trees.

Notes:

Found on Muehlenbeckia against white stone wall. Wish I had known more about them then... but now we have martinl. This one really reminds me of a leaf of bamboo and the male reminds me of a stick of bamboo. I finally found a male here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/114...

Your referenced image and possibly your spotting are sub adult females. She will be fully winged as an adult. Still poor fliers. Even though she imitates a leaf, the skinny male imitates a stick and these are true stick insects. Not rare in Victoria but rarely seen.
