Painted Apple Moth caterpillar

Teia anartoides

Description:

A very hairy caterpillar with four thick grey upright tufts of setae on the dorsak aspect of abdominal segments 1 to 4, A grey backward pointing tuft at thie rear end and two 2 red markings surrounding dorsal glands on segments 6 & 7.

Habitat:

Spotted on a hakea bush. This bush had several caterpillars at one stage early this year and now has several "hairy" empty cocoons.

Notes:

At attractive caterpillar that feeds on various ornamentals and in the wild, on several natives. Seen as a pest in pine plantations. Family: Lymantriidae ( Tussock moths)
